Cheng Du: 'God Forsaken' in Chinese
Those of you who read our updates, know that we spent four days in a city of 10 million people that we had never heard of.

Cheng Du.

We made four attempts to fly into Lhasa, each day having to turn around right before touchdown due to bad weather (we finally made it on the fifth).

Stress does strange things to people.
Several people on the plane began to think it was a plot by Air China to ruin our holiday.
Others thought that they could help the pilot land the plane by providing some advice.
At least once, after flight 3 I think, the passengers rebelled, refusing to get off the plane - and then doing a sit in on the runway as seen here -  until Air China promised to put us in a nicer place than the rat hole we slept in the previous night.
Here is another one.

The flowerpot next to the (unthinkable to swim in) pool must have been somebody's idea of a joke.

Here is a lovely little walk we found in Cheng Du.

It is right next to a highway and a wall of graffitti.

Little touches, like the abandoned billboard added special characeter.

Ah, Cheng Du, you did still give us some good times.

Here is one of the many beautiful hotels that Air China put us in.

The air conditioners didn't work.
Despite the fact that we were on the third floor, the hallway was flooded with water.
.At this one, which was apparently an abandoned army barracks, there was another pool.

With a BBQ and a bench in the middle of it.

The BBQ did not work.

Not sure what the sign with the wild deer is meant to convey.

One day, we were so bored, we just got on a bus. We had no idea where it was going, but it had to be better than where we were.

We didn't know how to pay for a ticket and the bus driver couldn't be bothered to explain it to us.

So we sat down. It took us deeper into Cheng Du.
